Stories of the Cats

| Fabulous Felines 2010 Year End Letter |
 |
All of us at Fabulous Felines would like to thank you on behalf of all of the kitties for your wonderful support and good wishes that have helped us through 2010. This year has been challenging for us. Small charities must be creative during a recession to keep operations on an even keel, but thanks to you we were able to keep our projects going. We would like to pause in this Holiday Season, thank you for your generosity, and tell you about the work you have made possible.
For several years, we have been working to manage colonies of feral and abandoned cats. When we began this effort, these feral populations had been growing unchecked for several years. We are grateful to the neighborhood residents who opened their minds and hearts to the idea of managing these colonies humanely. Through an aggressive TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) program, we have stabilized the population, found adoptive homes for those cats that were friendly, and maintained shelters and feeding stations for those cats that were too feral for adoption and had to be neutered and returned to the neighborhood they had long called home. |

One of our rescue cats was Mona, a feral cat who had given birth to a litter of kittens. When we trapped her, the kittens were sick, and nearly blind with eye infections. Thanks to your generous help, we were able to restore the kittens to health, and place them in loving homes. Mona has been spayed and, although still feral, is living in the yard of a neighborhood resident who works with us to provide her with food and shelter. For more about Mona . . .
Sometimes working with free-roaming cats has a sad side. While seeking to TNR cats at a new point in the neighborhood, we discovered 3 very small bouncing kittens watching us from behind some stored items. Nearby, a colleague discovered their mother, who had just died. We don't know whether she had been hit by a car, or succumbed to complications from pregnancy and giving birth alone without shelter or assistance. We named this poor animal Lily, and cremated her with love and respect. We were able to find a special foster for the three babies, and have partnered with another group to find them permanent homes. You can see their baby pictures below. |

Another unexpected expense came when Ian, a medium haired black Persian mix whom we are fostering, had a severe dental infection. Fabulous Felines has a policy of providing veterinary treatment for all animals in our care, whether feral or tame, but this often strains our resources. Poor Ian’s treatment was such a case, but we sent out a special plea for help, and your contributions defrayed the cost of his procedure. Ian is healthy and living in foster care.
In addition to managing feral colonies, we also spend time on Education and Outreach to the community. In April, we presented a daylong seminar on cat care, called A Celebration of Cats. Thanks to the generosity of our speakers, sponsors, and attendees, our seminar was a great success. It was a day filled with learning, meeting new friends, and sharing our compassion for all living creatures.
Another of our outreach efforts involves taking therapy cats to a local residence for Alzheimer patients. It never ceases to amaze us to see how the simple touch of an animal can make even the most withdrawn patient respond with a smile. |

We also wish to thank you for your financial support through the year, particularly your generous response to our fundraising events.
One of our annual events is Wild Love, which we hold in February, the month of love and valentines. Although many of the cats we help are wild, we have seen love make a difference in their lives. Our Wild Love fundraiser is dedicated to the wild heart in all of us!
Every August we have a FUNdraising party where cat lovers and supports gather to participate in music, food, conversation, and our silent auction.
From time to time Fabulous holds a food drive to gather a little extra food for the cats in our care.
Your response to all these events has been loving and generous.
In closing, we thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done for our little charity and the animals we try to help.
And, if you can find it in your heart to make an end of year donation to Fabulous Felines, it would help to fulfill our wish for the Holidays and the coming year: that all animals be respected, and find love, health, and warmth. You may donate by:
