Stories of the Cats

Holly's Story, by Jess and Morgan

Jess and Morgan, two of our volunteers, sent us this story about Holly, a rescue cat they have brought to join their home. Their words beautifully capture the joy of adopting a resued cat.

"When we first met Holly, she was squished all the way in the back of a cat carrier, having just come from a visit to the vet. She looked terrified. We brought her home and the first thing she did was run right under the bed, where she stayed for the next three days. Even though she was obviously scared, she would start purring as soon as I put my hand under the bed and started petting her. Little by little she started coming out from under the bed. At first, if we happened to catch her out on top of the bed instead of under it she would hiss at us and take off. Slowly, she learned that nobody was going to hurt her and she started purring instead of hissing when she saw her mommy or daddy.

Holly

"As Holly got more comfortable in her new home, her little personality started to come out. She loves to play...especially with her favorite “octopus” toy. She plays with abandon, completely throwing herself into the game. She’s just as serious about cuddle time: her purr sounds just like a motorboat and she’ll purr if she even sees one of her parents. She’s also a little unusual for a cat in that she loves to be held. Holly will climb into your lap and position herself so that you have to hold her or she’ll fall off.

"When we originally took Holly in it was with the understanding that she was a foster kitty. We already had a large kitty family and didn’t think we needed another family member. However, as the weeks went by it became obvious to us that Holly had other ideas. Her sweet and loving personality quickly grew on us and the thought of parting with her became unthinkable. Holly truly did make it home in time for the holly-days!"
